Opes have been providing support services for a large-scale Organisation Development and Leadership in Irish Rail for the past two years. The programme supported the Executive Team and Senior Leaders to develop the Mission, Vision and Values of the business and to align Leadership capability and practices to the vision. This included updating the competence framework, assessing capabilities and development planning for 140 leaders, master classes, business improvement teams and executive coaching.

The programme is well underway and has been designed to challenge the whole organisation to lead, behave and manage differently. At EMT and the wider management team level, the benefits to date reflect a renewed focus on taking ownership, changing attitudes and behaviours, and enhancing the process of staff engagement.

The programme has been adapted to include the next level of management with the focus on accountability and empowerment. Overall progress to date from the programme includes:

  • A renewed cohesive leadership approach from EMT
  • Establishment of a Heads of Branch Forum as a significant level of leadership in AFBI
  • Planned roll-out to next level of management
  • Developments in the processes of change management and performance management

The programme continues to be managed within budget and in accordance with agreed target dates.
